J's Hiro

In 2006 opened in Via Carlo Vittadini 7, in Milan, a traditional Japanese restaurant: J's Hiro.

Hiromi Arai is the owner. Arriving in Tuscany to study Italian cuisine, she moved to Milan to open her own Japanese restaurant. The name of the place refers to her, Japanese’s Hiro. The restaurant is furnished with boiserie, so it is very different from traditional Japanese restaurants or more modern and fusion ones. A choice not dictated by chance, since Hiromi san wanted to recreate a family environment, comfortable, where customers can feel at home. The result, in this sense, is satisfactory: the place is intimate and noisy, recommended for dinners in company.

The idea of home cooking is respected in the choice of open kitchen and in the handwritten menu, which presents a number of traditional dishes. The (Asian) staff often recommend trying new dishes, to let customers know about recipes they may not know or to appreciate their authenticity, such as yakimeshi (sautéed rice with vegetables) and the sauce that accompanies tonkatsu.

Both lunch and dinner are offered off-menu. At lunch, sets are offered that include soba, sashimi, sushi and tonkatsu. Popular dishes include ramen, udon, unayu, huramaki, sashimi, sake and maguro tataki, sumiso tataki, maki, sansyoku donburi, chiken nanban, tempura and sukiyaki.
