Japanese Old Fashioned
Old Fashioned is one of the most famous and oldest cocktails in the world. In the United States it is a real institution and over the years it has become one of the most appreciated also in Japan, thanks to the luck and long tradition of excellent Japanese whiskeys. The recipe I propose is made with Japanese whiskey instead of American rye whiskey, as per tradition. This cocktail is excellent both for an aperitif but also as an after dinner. It is prepared strictly in the glass that gives it its name, the old fashioned. Ps. If you are in Japan I suggest you to buy spirits from Liquor Mountain in Shinjuku, I will tell you about it here. INGREDIENTS - 2 oz of Japanese whiskey - 1 cube of sugar - 1 splash of soda - angostura - lemon - maraschino cherry
PREPARATION - Saturate the sugar cube with a few drops of angostura directly in the glass. Pour a splash of soda and dissolve the sugar in it. - Fill the glass with ice cubes and pour the whiskey into it. Turn the cocktail until the glass completely freezes (I recommend, the glass should be held at the base with your hand). If the ice level drops too low, add one or two cubes. - Cut the lemon peel with a small knife or a potato peeler (there must be no white part attached). Use the lemon peel to perfume the outline of the glass, then put it inside the glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry. Serve immediately.
