Ippo sushi boutique

In the Porta Venezia area, a new sushi fusion showcase has recently opened that has taken the place of the late Wonton restaurant: it is Ippo sushi boutique.

The Zhou family, after the successes of Ravioleria Sarpi, 25 and Le Nove Scodelle, has decided to embark on the path of creative sushi. Holding the reins is Youkang Zhou, better known as Fabio.

Fabio has a long career, which is not just about the fine research he carried out on Peking duck for the Wonton restaurant. In fact, he learned the art of sushi from the Japanese chef Kyoko Higuma and in 2006 he became chef of the Zushi restaurant in Verona. He then made many experiences as an internship in starred restaurants and worked abroad in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. Finally, today he primarily follows this project, which does not include Japanese cooks but a lot of creativity and desire to stand out.

But what does Ippo propose? You can choose between different combinations (which vary according to the quantity of sushi and crudité), the now inevitable poké, sushi mignon, sashimi, nigiri and an endless number of uramaki, onigiri, cirashi, tartare and soups. In short, the choice is really wide, despite an expansion of the menu with proposals made in the kitchen is expected.

As anticipated, sushi on menu is creative, therefore heavily contaminated by numerous inspirations and ingredients of various types (especially Italian).

I tried numerous dishes, to try to get an idea: I ranged between nigiri, uramaki, their miso soup, tartare and sashimi.

Surely there is a great deal of research and in-depth study of the basic preparations and ingredients. In my opinion, some combinations are a bit too daring, in the sense that tastes tend to mix excessively and it is not possible to distinguish them.

There is also a great care for the packaging, functional and elegant, perfect for making a good impression if you want to make a gift. It is possible to order the take away by contacting the restaurant, or by relying on the main delivery platforms. Finally, the price is slightly above average, in my opinion.

Ippo is a new project, which is still in the running-in phase and which the young owners have decided to carry out in silent opening. They denote inspiration and desire to differentiate, so I hope that over time it will be able to find the space it deserves in the multitude of very similar proposals in Milan.
